Marin Montagut created this object, which has become iconic, by drawing inspiration from 18th century books called secret books or hiding books.
These books were hollowed out so that valuable objects could be hidden in a library, protected by the anonymity of a row of real books.
Marin Montagut's “Livres à secrets” collection is made of papier-mâché, entirely hand-painted in his workshops in Paris. They are also numbered and signed by the artist.
The interior is lined with marbled paper and contains a ribbon with a metal trinket in the shape of a key at its end.
